Affiliate Marketing - Don't Be Fooled Making Money Online Is Not That Easy!

Almost every single day Affiliate marketers have been receiving tons of emails and sometimes spam mails from Internet Gurus and so-called Gurus, in an effort to lure them into buying products that they claim can help them to make millions of dollars online. The truth is, internet marketing, in particularly the affiliate marketing arena has been rapidly evolving over the years, making it tougher for affiliate marketers to realize the kind of profit they used to to make, especially in tough economic times like these these.

These Gurus know that they are having a rather difficult time making money online the way they used to, so the only way out is to turn to the desperate affiliate newbies who are struggling to make their first online sale. This is how most of these Gurus are now trying to make their money. Most of these products don't even work. Often times, they just sit on your hard drive collecting dust and using up drive space. Below are some of the things affiliates should be aware of:

  1. Whether online or offline, you have to first choose the right niche - meaning a product that people need - not want. There is a different between needs and wants.
  2. Always keep in mind the fundamental principles of economics - Buying and Selling are driven by supply and demand.
  3. Remember if too many people are selling the product you are selling, it's going to hurt your business.
  4. Remember to stay away from a product that can be easily substituted or replaced by another - example, a product that carries a wide variety of brands will allow too many choices.
  5. Avoid products that are low cost, especially if everyone is selling it - You will have to have a lot of customers to make a decent amount of money. contrarily, if the product is too expensive, a lot of consumers wont buy it, especially in tough economic times like these. It's better to sell a product that's not too expensive and at the same time not too cheap. With an average price product, you stand a better chance of making a few dollars in profit, even though you don't have a lot of customers(example: If you sell 5 of product X for $50 monthly, you will make $250, while if you sell 50 of product Y for $4 each month you will make $200). you will have to have a regular and a high customer base to experience a significant amount of profit when selling a low priced product. So sell a low priced product only if the demand for it is high and the supply is low - Be among the few people selling it.
  6. Why sell a product online when it can be easily obtained offline at the same price or even better - remember you have to take in consideration the cost of shipping and handling when shopping online. Offline, there is no cost of shipping and handling.
  7. Why sell a product consumers don't replace or purchase regularly? ex. if you sell software, and other technology related products that constantly change or reinvent, that's better. Beware of products like a cooking utensil for example, because once a person buys it, chances are, he/she might not visit your website again, especially when you don't have a large number of customers.
  8. Kids spend most of their parents money indirectly, and the younger generation tends to keep up with the latest gadgets than most older adults - so in this case, it might be better to choose your product with a target population in mind.
  9. demographic location is also another key factor - certain countries for example, buy more of certain items online than others - so do your research on the country or countries that buy what products online.

Conclusion

The bottom line is, these traffic driving software/programs that most Gurus claim can drive millions of visitors to your website are somewhat useless, if nobody or just a few online shoppers need the merchandise you are selling. Even if some of these traffic generators do have the ability to drive traffic to you website, I can bet you that visitors will leave as quickly as they landed on your website. The same goes for SEO, it's useless if you don't have a product or service that people truly need. So, one final word of advice to all Affiliate marketer newbies, realize that affiliate marketing is not as easy as the gurus make it out to be; you definitely have to do some work! If you want to have a better shot at making money online, at least, first make it your duty to choose a product that is high in demand. In addition, please give all the other above listed points some thoughts.

Good solid advice here. Anyone who says that you will make '$129,258.93 in the next 24 hours' or something along those lines is simply lying. Newbies need to concentrate on learning the basics first and, as you say, doing research. It takes time but, in the end, is the only way to go.

Kieran, thanks for your feedback. It took me some time to realize that all these talks about making millions of dollars within a day is nothing but noise! Most of these so-called system that some of these Guys are selling are not only useless but are also difficult to learn that most newbies will give up trying to implement them within a day. No sooner they find themselves back to the same spot where they were before!

Goog advice here. We earn a little bit of money (and I do mean little) from affiliate marketing on our website. To do this we give advice on the products that might help viewers make a decision to purchase - so we give a little 'added extra'. You had to put in effort to get money from most things in life - including affiliate marketing.

good advice from clearly someone who has tested a few products. I have been getting fed up of the warrior forum recently. I used to think it was a very credible source of info on affiliate products. I have bought some great WSOs but many are just fads, and not even tested, and supported by all the hyped up statements we all dislike. I still get emails from affiliate marketers - i am never going to buy from those. An affiliate marketer must build credibility in his or her niche and be seen to be an authority in that niche, and then trust follows. Most people entering affiliate marketing and building blogs seem to have skipped that very important point and think any old crappy content will do, and a spattering of sales pages will do the trick -nope it wont.

Clickforsoeo, you are so right by saying"someone who has tested a few products."Although I am not an expert,it doesn't require more than your personal experience to know that Affiliate Marketing requires some work. Secondly,I have also had my share of falling for a few hyped up statements, glorifying products/systems that were absolutely useless. The bottom line is, no matter how "book smart" we are, if we don't have common sense, we will continue to be preys or fools!
